I remember when I made my first transition into a bigger leadership role. I was so excited that my hard work had paid off and I was now the one in charge – it was going to be great. But then it turned out it wasn’t all great, in fact, it was really hard work. I was feeling like many of the leadership approaches I had learned up until that point hadn’t prepared me for the challenges that I was now facing in a bigger role. Recruiting and build a great team.  Dealing with the demands of the CEO. Resisting the urge to just get in there and do the work myself because I know I can do it faster. Influencing people outside of my team. Oh, and my personal favorite, doing what’s best for the company, even if it’s not the best for me or my team. I was ready to throw in the towel.
